It's also interesting that the game's emphasis is on solo racing. Sure, you can pit an AI opponent against the world online but the solo game can frustrate. Launching the game in a city like New York for instance, you'll be dropped in a spectacular traffic jam. Because of that, the city's main roads will be basically empty. The problem is, that's when the fun starts. Isolated on the corners of the empty city, you're free to do your own thing; pushing your car and seeing what happens as traffic patterns build up. There's even an optional unlock mode which lets you enter the city at unrealistic speeds. All in all, LASR's greatest asset is that fact that you're free to do whatever you want. Sure, it'll never be perfect, but it'll almost always be fun.
In addition, it's also a great case of the content that the game does provide. While nowhere near as nuts as A-list racing titles like Gran Turismo and Forza, the content is nice to look at if you're not interested in sports games. One of the big things is that some of the cars look a lot like their real life counterparts. Cars like Alfa Romeo,Dodge Charger and even a Toyota Vitz all look great, if you give them some love. You also get a sweeping hub of racetracks, each with up to ten dedicated events to participate in, ranging from street races to drifting.
But there are also a few shortcomings. The AI is pretty useless, often making you go through a collection of routes to get to a correct point, then won't pull over just for good even though you're on the wrong side of the road, and even though traffic ahead has moved on. This just points to one flaw in the game. While the games content is fun, the execution is executed far from great. Unfortunately, the basics of LASR are simply not good enough.
